About The Blue Willow Tea Shop

The Blue Willow Tea Shop has been delighting local residents, cottagers and visitors from around the world since 2006.   An idyllic waterfront location at Muskoka Wharf, where you can shop our vintage boutique or indulge in our unique version of ‘High Tea’ in our lake view dining room or patio.

We are a small (34 seats) tea room with pretty views of Lake Muskoka, the Muskoka Wharf and Muskoka Steamships. Reservations are highly recommended to avoid disappointment as we are sold out most days. We offer 3 seatings a day to enjoy our ‘High Tea’ experience.

“Do one thing and do it great!”

‘High Tea’ is all we do and have been doing for years. We have a set menu in the Tea Room, which changes monthly. “One of the best High Teas in Ontario” and a great price at only $39.95 per person plus tax. To make your ‘High Tea’ even more special, add on our house or traditional mimosa!

We also have a lovely takeaway menu available for sandwiches, sweets, savouries and beverages. You can even takeaway High Tea if you wish. On our patio, you are welcome to walk-in by chance and enjoy any of our offerings.

We pride ourselves on providing a unique tea experience, making any day a celebration, but we also love hosting your special events and parties! Birthdays, bachelorettes, anniversaries and showers, are always extra special at Blue Willow!

A gluten free version of our ‘High Tea’ is available with advance notice for an additional $10.00. At this time we can not accommodate vegan or dairy free diets.

Reservations Recommended

Because we are a small shop, reservations for our seatings work best. Once you have confirmed your table with us, it is important to update us if there are any changes. We prepare ahead of time for the expected number of guests therefore if you arrive with fewer guest than you booked, you will still be presented with and charged for the number of ‘High Teas’ you originally booked. We appreciate at least 24 hours notice of changes.

The History of Tea Time

Tea was first introduced at court in England in 1645 and quickly became popular among English society. There are many stories of how Afternoon Tea and High Tea came to be. One story suggest the Duchess o f Bedford (1783-1857) requested a mid afternoon snack; sandwiches, cakes and a pot of tea to manage the gap between the mid day and evening meals. In Victorian and Edwardian times, ‘Afternoon Tea’ or ‘Low Tea’ was served on low tables and consisted of sandwiches, cakes and pastries. ‘High Tea’, served at the dining table was a hearty meal of meat pies, savoury dishes, breads and cheese and enjoyed by the working classes at dinner.

Our version of ‘High Tea’ is inspired by this.

Just a little over 2 hours north of Toronto, we are a fantastic day trip destination! See you soon!
